THE CALLING BEHIND A GRAIN OF PSALT
A Grain of Psalt exists because the Christ life matters.
In Scripture, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth.
Salt preserves, keeps, and gives depth of flavor.
In our age, the world is losing its savor. Beauty is destroyed, womanhood is devalued or appropriated, households are fractured, and faith is treated as an aesthetic rather than a covenant.
But Christian women are not called to blend in. We are called to season, preserve, and stand fast in the grace of God.
A Grain of Psalt is a place for women who hunger for depth rather than trends.
Women who care more about obedience than performance.
Women who desire households ordered toward Christ, whether quiet or full, simple or complex, newly built or long established.
Women who want a faith that is lived, not curated.
Here we pursue:
- Scripture as the anchor
- Marriage as covenant
- High days and holy days as the pattern for the turning of the year
- Beauty as a reflection of God’s goodness
- Steadfastness rather than spectacle
- Homemaking as ministry
Everything here is meant to help you live a salted life in Christ:
flavored by grace, strengthened by truth, seasoned with wisdom, for the glory of God.
“Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt…” — Colossians 4:6
MEET MARY ANN
Hi! I’m Mary Ann. I’m a homemaker, storyteller, voice actor, musician, former homeschooling mom of 16 years, partial empty-nester (my daughter is in college, so she comes back for summers and holidays), and the woman behind A Grain of Psalt.
I live in the Wisconsin countryside with my husband, our animals (a cast of
characters in their own right), and a home full of music, books, and everyday beauty. Also, my random collections of teacups, lunchboxes, hymnals, and highland cow decor. My days are spent caring for my household, tending our little acreage (which contains goats and chickens), recording audiobooks, teaching Scripture, and cultivating a life shaped by God’s patterns rather than the world’s chaos.
I started A Grain of Psalt because I felt God calling me to use my spiritual gifts (preaching and teaching) to minister to other women. So many Christian women today feel overwhelmed, under-taught, and spiritually malnourished. We’re drowning in influencer pseudo-theology, aesthetic pressure, lifestyle content, and cultural noise.
Somewhere in all that noise, the basics were lost:
- God sets the patterns.
- Obedience brings peace.
- Beauty is not vanity when it reflects God’s order.
- Marriage is a calling and covenant, not a housing arrangement.
- Homemaking is a vocation, whether you work outside the home or not.
- Efficiency is fine, but holiness is the goal.
A Grain of Psalt is where the ordinary becomes the doorway to the eternal and biblical truth meets daily life.
Where discipleship happens in the kitchen, on the porch, in the garden, at the piano, or among the goats.
This is a place for real Christian women building real Christian homes in a real, sin-soaked world.
You’re very welcome here.
WHAT YOU’LL FIND HERE
This is a discipleship channel disguised as a homemaking one.
You’ll find:
- Biblical teaching with backbone
- Warm storytelling
- Homemaking that is practical, not performative
- Cultural clarity without outrage
- Seasonal traditions rooted in Scripture
- Encouragement for marriage and family life
- The occasional turkey, goat, or campfire
- And always the invitation:
“Don’t just take my word for it. Crack open your Bible, and stay Psalted.”
WHY THE “P” IN SALT?
I’m afraid this is a pun.
A Psalter is a book of the biblical Psalms, either for reading or singing. I’ve collected several over the years as a Christian, homeschooling mother, vocalist, musician, and former church Music Director.
The Psalms contain the full breadth of the human experience in relationship with God: lament, joy, repentance, longing, and doxology.
My hope is that you’ll test everything I say against the Scriptures. Naturally, I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t think I was right, but the final authority will always be the Word of God, especially for women trying to honor Him, love their husbands, and serve their families.
